Stress Rewire

“Stress is the new smoking.” {JAMA, 2007}

Stress is a major chemical event. When any situation challenges us or feels out of our control — your stress response button gets pushed to help you survive it. Your body doesn’t know the difference between being chased by a T-Rex, a traffic jam, or a difficult conversation. The stress response involves 40+ chemicals surging through your body.

A moment of stress can turn into hours of chemical chaos inside your body. Cortisol, one of your major stress responders, has a half-life of 1-2 hours. This means that once it’s released it wears and tears at your body for the rest of the day {or night}. You have to wait it out until it clears your system — kind of like drinking 10 espresso shots.

Where it really becomes harmful to us, is that it directly impacts two of our main regulatory systems:

  • The Autonomic Nervous System {ANS}, and the
  • Hypothalamic Pituitary Adrenal Axis {HPA Axis}.

The ANS runs all the automated functions in your body — like immunity, sleep, digestion, immunity, and breathing. {You can kind of see why we don’t want to mess with this guy} The HPA Axis is made up of our brain and adrenal glands — which have a strong influence on the state of your thyroid and sex hormones.

You start each day with a certain amount of biological reserve. If you are constantly spending it on creating and cleaning up the stress response, you are going to run out of gas. More specifically, you are going to exhaust your ANS and HPA Axis, which is literally and figuratively like falling apart at the seams.

What’s even more DANGEROUS?

As humans — we are wired to find the familiar comfortable. That’s true even if the familiar is chaos.

If chemical chaos is your normal — it will feel comfortable; it will feel like you are holding it all together….

but a very different story is going on under the surface.

In this world of unrelenting life stressors, there is a huge focus on “Relaxation Techniques” like meditation and deep breathing…relaxation is great and needed…but it is only a piece of the puzzle. As you can see from the diagram below — relaxed (a parasympathetic dominant state) can be both physiologically positive and negative. Major Depression is actually classified as a parasympathetic dominant state.

The most important piece of information coming out of your body is not your heart rate, or your brain waves — it is your heart pattern.

Stress Signature Analysis plots the quantity and quality of your Heart Rate Variability {HRV}. HRV is a direct window into the state of your nervous and hormonal systems — the two main regulatory systems in charge of everything from sleep, to immunity, to blood sugar regulation, to libido, to digestion, to pain, to menstrual cycle.

A high HRV means your system is vital, flexible, organized, and coping well with what life is throwing at it.

A low HRV means your body is living in a chaotic, brittle, energy-draining state where biological systems break down faster.

Your heart is the strongest bioelectrical center in your body {40-60x more electrical output than your brain} — its physiology has the capacity to balance, or imbalance, all other systems in your body {i.e. brain, hormone, immune, digestion}

You can increase your HRV — giving you direct access to minimize the damaging effects of stress, as well as change your mental function, hormones, stress response and energy in minutes.

Everything starts with the quality of your physiology — the constant stream of information that your cells are bathed in. Your emotions, feelings, thoughts, behaviors and health outcomes are all determined by the conditions your cells are living in.

Similarly, you only have access to what you’re current physiology is capable of — making it sometimes feel like your body is betraying you or that you are betraying it!

You can stop the destructive effects of stress, and improve the quality of information your cells are swimming in by starting an exercise program, overhauling your diet, and meditating an hour a day — or you can do something much easier that works much faster.

Stress Signature Analysis is a direct window into the state of your nervous system and HRV training gives you direct access to be able to change your entire physiology…from the ground up….in minutes.

APPOINTMENT 1 — Your baseline assessment and first steps

  • Your baseline assessment will look at the state and balance of your sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems, how depleted or vital your system is, how much overall metabolic fuel you have in your tank, and whether you are using that fuel efficiently or whether it’s being constantly drained by biochemical chaos.
  • You’ll also get to see how easy it is for you to shift your physiology in minutes

This baseline will let me best tailor your Stress Rewire program for you — to stop the depleting effect of stress and start rebuilding your nervous and hormonal system.

Most people will require 3-6 appointments, depending on the state of their nervous system, to cover the information and training required to rewire their system and improve their physiology to the point that they are able to continue on their own.

  • Increased energy
  • Deeper sleep
  • Increased mental clarity/ decreased brain fog
  • Adrenal fatigue recovery
  • Improved blood sugar regulation
  • Decreased inflammation
  • Decreased chronic pain
  • Decreased food cravings and emotional eating
  • Better ability to handle everyday stress
  • Better coping reserves
  • Increased athletic performance and recovery
  • Effortless change — perhaps the coolest effect of shifting your baseline physiology is that changes or behaviors that felt impossible, now become your new normal
